Block Offense Offensive Line Play Plays Pass Protection Drive Scoop Crab Kick Out Trap Hook Down X Pass Blocking

Drive: Blocker steps with play side foot and uses hands on defenders shoulder pads chopping feet and driving defender back.

Scoop: Blocker steps with play side foot and puts shoulder pads and head across the defenders body trying to turn him or cut him off from pursuit

Crab: Used like a scoop block only the blocker gets on all fours and makes his block. NOT recommended in youth football due to leg injuries. BUT do use this technique if you are having trouble with your blockers standing up and giving up pad leverage.

Kick-Out: This block is used on a trap or a fullback block. The blocker usually will have shoulders at a angle to line of scrimmage and  catch the defender on the inside shoulder.

Hook: Used mostly by tight ends to hook the end. Most will use a influence hook where the blocker takes a super wide first step out. This makes it seem as if the tight end is releasing on a pass route and then turns quickly to hook the defender.

Down: Blocker will block the man inside aiming for the outside underneath shoulder pads. This block is great because of the angle used. The blocker has the advantage if the defender can't get square and use his hands.

X: Used with two blockers. The outside blocker, down blocks quickly stepping with the inside foot first. The inside blocker moves second stepping with the outside foot almost parallel to line of scrimmage then kick out/traps the defender. Must be a fluid quick exchange by the two blockers to gain a seam for the running back.

Pass: Used when passing. DUH! The blocker comes out of his stance chopping his feet with his hands shoulder level cocked ready to strike. This is a block like take him where he wants to go in that the blocker uses the defenders momentum to push him out of the rushing lanes. Must use your hands and keep your feet moving.
