Shirley Majors

Shirley Majors and Elizabeth Bobo grew up, married, and lived in Lynchburg TN home of Jack Daniels Whiskey. The home they lived in was torn down and replaced by the Moore County public library. Shirley was a football coach and part time barber. He coached the Moore County Raiders,  several years then went up the road to the Huntland Hornets. His first year he was beaten by the Moore county team lead by his oldest son John. That would be the last time he would coach against his son and he moved the family to Huntland TN. While coaching Huntland he compiled a 70-7 record after losing four games his first year. Later he would take on the job at the University of the South Sewanee Tigers in Sewanee TN. He would eventually coach them for 21 years and post a 93-74-5 record. Twice the Tigers were unbeaten and Shirley would become a charter member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame 1966 and division 3 Coach of the Year 1973.

Elizabeth meanwhile taught elementary school and kept the youngsters in line. The two of them shaped the city's young population. They are both deceased and buried in the Moore County cemetery.
