My wife signed my name to a credit card application HELP
Hi Bo,
Thanks for the great website.
My wife signed my name to a credit card application and maxed it out to the $5,000 limit without my knowledge. I happened to find the statement by accident, which was hidden, and demanded that they take my name off the card due to fraud. I did not receive any benefit from the money, nor did I ever make a payment or charge to the account. The credit card company denied my request to remove me from the account because they say I was jointly on the account that had made payments (my wife’s checking account). The CC fraud department said that if my wife signed a “statement of responsibility”, which she did, that they would remove me from the account, but they did not keep their promise. I am not able to get my student loans because this issue on my otherwise good credit.
How can I get this off my credit, or do I just have to pay for her fraud? Unfortunately, I don’t have money to pay the debt or an attorney. I don’t want a divorce, I just want to get the debt removed from my credit. I didn’t deserve to have my credit trashed because she defrauded me.
