BAD CREDIT First time home buyers tax credit

Hi, Bo.  My husband and I would like to take advantage of the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit and purchase a home in the next couple of months.  The average of my and my husband’s score is around 550.  We have gotten things removed from our credit report that did not belong, but there is not really any good credit to report.  We basically just pay for everything that we want with cash when we need to.  Everything on our credit reports is charged off and collections.  How do we raise our credit score to a 620 (the magic number we’ve been told that we need to get a mortgage loan) quickly?  Do we need to pay off these old debts or just let sleeping dogs

you have to have good open credit
12 months old usually

this is about the only way to raise your score
paying of old bad stuff will not get you good open credit
start now with a secured card
call around to anyone you have paid and see if one can report to a bureau
i doubt they can
but it never hurts to try
