Validate Dispute Negotiate Start Credit. Date Opened Date Reported

I have been trying desperately to fix my credit and am so confused by what exactly I should do or shouldn’t do. One question I have is this: Why is it that on certain collections accounts it says “date opened” and then “date reported” , and there’s a difference of 4-5 years between the two? I know with this account its not as if they waited that long to send it to collections. Are they re-reporting it or something to start the clocks over? Can they do that, and if so, how can I find out if that’s the case, and what should I do about it? Anything I can do? Thanks for your help!!
