How Can I be Certain Collections are Authorized to Collect

Dear Bo:

I have been reviewing your info and I am so greatful. I have some bad credit on some cards in 2005 that were suppose to be settled but I am sure that I did not due proper paperwork to reflect.

What if the credit card companies show a charge off how can I be certain that the collection companies that have contacted me are valid and not just some third party collections trying to make a buck?

If they do not have authority to collect how would I know?

If they don not have authority to collect how can I get the reference off of my credit?
