Credit Reports | Job Search | Pre Employment Check
One of the most disturbing facets of our new information age and stop the terrorist campaign is the job search, background check, credit check and employers willingness to use any tool they can to block your application process.
28 people every 2 minutes are losing their job as of Feb 10th 2009. If you lose your job your credit will probably suffer. So 100′s of people an hour are are forced to search for job while their credit is at risk. This is double jeopardy is the worst way.
What possible reason could a potential employer have to check your credit and what are the legal aspects of turning a job applicant down over credit issues. One story I read online said a man was turned down for being rehired as an airport screen-er because he fell 7000 dollars behind on his child support payments after being falsely fired from the same job in the first place. It makes no sense at all. If the judge ordered him wrongly fired and the TSA sends to poor man through a round of hiring gymnastics looking for a chance to not rehire him then the man should not have to pay for falling behind on payments while out of work. Matter of a fact the TSA should probably pay his back child support for him.
If an employer is going to check your credit for hiring purposes you will have to sign consent. This gives you a chance to explain any bad credit on your credit report. Try to turn a negative into a positive by saying I had a hard time but now I have come out of it better than before because of this and that. Giving your truthful explanation of the negative changes on your credit report offering an opportunity to show integrity in difficult circumstances. Bad things can happen to good people looking for new employment. The economic fallout should not be an opportunity for job seeker rights to be abused while desperately searching for employment. In fact, it should be an opportunity to become an informed indiviual regarding your rights, your credit report and equal employment opportunities. If you know your credit is good, then you had better get a copy of your credit report and make sure there are no mistakes that catch you off guard.
Their are certain jobs that a credit check is important like a job that handles money, but to check credit as a routine process for hiring or job search is nothing short of an invasion of privacy.
