This is the beginning of my all new 2007 Youth football
coaching guide. Keep coming back and get signed up as I will cut the free
online viewing of this years journal off when the season starts. Can't let
the other coaches in our league see my covert operations can I?
Are you?
I have
my kicking tees. Kick off 2" and Extra point tees 2 inch, just in case I find
a kicker that is 10-12 years old.
Pump up reusable air horn for fun. All kinds
of helmet snaps, chin straps, mouth pieces, shoulder pad stretchy straps, 2
stop watches, 2 whistles, 2 pliers, 2 screwdrivers, scissors, a hand
held football pump, and some duck tape.
I have band aides,
alcohol swabs, hydrogen peroxide, stretching over coat tape, some
ankle braces and knee wraps in the toolbox.
I
use my daughters ex bag marked GEM for more
stuff. 5 junior footballs, extra pant pads, seven old license plates to mark off
lineman holes for back drills, a bull horn with siren for fun, couple old arm
pads, plenty of pant pads.
I
have to order another football stat book for my stat man. Do you
have a stat man?
I think I will order this one this year > Big Red Detailed Football Scorebook - 12 Game Stat Book
Keep stats.
I made a running back and lineman football shoot out of PVC. I got 6 10' pieces of PVC pipe 8
90 degree elbows and 8 tees. I made a nice template that will work for anyone.
36$ for all the parts. Cut the pvc into 8 sections of 40 inches. The make
it look like this by cutting into to sides and top to place the tees. I made
this one adjustable from 40 inches to 32. All I did was cut into the 40 sections
going up and place a tee. Now I can cut separate smaller or larger lengths of
the short pvc's to adjust the height. I know have 2 10 foot sections left and
one 40" section left over. I am going to cut the 40" section into shorter
lengths for adjustable height feature. I will let you know how it works.
I will have some great drills on this shoot in my updated football guide this
year. So buy it and keep up with what's happening in Tullahoma TN 2007
I have to get a board for the board drill.
I bought the timing QB stand. I would like a ladder to use on the running backs footwork.
I made one of those lineman eye one
the ball things for an old man so I do not have to get one my knees
every time I work with linemen. Here it is. Nerf ball, household glue, 3/4 inch
pvc, 5/8 drill bit, 1 coupling, pvc glue, some small 1/ 1/4 screws with nuts.
Great for the board drills and watching for first steps and alignments. I think
I'll make 2, just in case, you know for sprints one for each end or something.
My football coach buddy has the water jug and a set of tires to run through.
I can't find my water bottle caddy. I gotta
have one of those before the games start.
I need some more cones.
Of course I have my measure stick for drafting on stand
by.
But right now I am working on practice for no pads, and practice for
tackling and blocking as these are the best tools of a coach. No good blocker or
good tackler was ever left off a football team and a good locker is worth three
good runners. So I must make some blockers and tacklers.
I am coming up with some serious drills for non pad work out the most wasted
are for time in football.
Dude.
ARE YOU GEARED UP?

July 8th 2007
Got some Eye Black from Hibbets today.
I remember I need to get another 5 gallon bucket. One to hold the water
jug and one to throw the trash in. Oh and I need to go by Big Lots
and get a pile of Dixie cups. Need at least the small Dixie cup size
for plenty of water. The first couple of weeks I give at least 4-5
water breaks a practice and tell them the first one that pukes some
gets a dollar.
My Quarterback drill thing, from above, should be here Monday or Tuesday.
I'm thinking we can time the offensive speed. 3 seconds and we should 5 yards past
the line of scrimmage on runs. On passes 4 seconds and the pass should be
thrown or tucked and run.
I haven't ordered my score book yet.

7-9-2007
Bought some Eye Black and athletic tape
from WalMart while I was there.
Ordered the > Big Red Detailed Football Scorebook - 12 Game Stat Book
from Amazon today.
Went to watch the 8th district Little league 11-12 years old playoff game
in Tullahoma TN tonight. My coaching friend coaches one team and his
child is a roster hot shot with several home runs this year. I
expect him to dominate with his speed and tough hitting. The other
playoff baseball team is coached by The Football Bulldogs coach of
20 plus years. This was a whole lot of fun and I go to talk about
the season coming up with some of the players and parents at the
game.
We have a League Meeting next Monday.
Just got a check in the mail from John of New York, New York. Staten
Island.
John bought my guide in 2002 and is paying up again as he found a lot of
help in the guide and likes to just work hard. I talked with him
several times on the phone in 02 and he is sending me a couple of
game tapes as he is proud of what he has done with his team the past
few years. He asked me how many plays do I think he had in his
playbook last year. I said are you counting right and left as 2 or 1
play. He said he counts each separate and I said I don't and will
make a guess on my basis and said 18. John knows I do not like a lot
of plays he cut his astronomical figure in half and told me
something like 40 plays. He said the kids loved it and worked it
hard. Good for you John but count me out of 80 plays.
All that to say: If you but my guide you WILL find something very handy
for your football team.
Hurry and buy my guide, as soon this Journal will be hidden to only the
success guide buyers for this year.

7-17-07 Tuesday.
Ambled around in the garage today.

New QB timing stand. Ahhhhhh.

Everything packed up nice and neat. Hope to leave the pvc chute and
a board for my board drill at the practice field. Carry the vertical
leap and measure stick for the first week only to measure kids for
the draft. I have to carry the bucket as some kids can out jump an
8' stick in the 10-11-12 age group. Just put the stick on the bucket
and a few will out jump that. We want those kids on our team.
I need 2 buckets. One to stand the water bucket on and one for trash.

I played college football for 6 years
and could not coach youth football effectively and felt
stupid. I could not substitute, get lined up or teach decent
team concepts.
I looked for help online and new I was not the only one. Once I got some
things down I put them online free and then added my secret
team practice and game techniques that really helped me. I
am sure I can help real live engaged dads like a solid
football coaches.
Do NOT get outworked! 2007 new improved
guide in progress right there.

8-5-07 Monday
First day in shorts.
We learned how to get lined up and stretch.
I led the first day.
We clapped 2 times after each count of UP. Standing stretches only.
Finished with a roll over and touch your toes on the ground behind
you.
Then EVERYBODY ON YOUR FEET
Form running back and forth at 10 + 10 yards in three lines.
Chopping your feet when you come to the line.
In "football position" Eyes up.
High Knees
Slide Step
Carioca
Back Peddle.
Form run first 10 yards sprint out next ten then come back.
IMPORTANT to move facing the same way coming back some you work they
other side of the body. It shows you know what you are doing when
you demand the player face the same way. Visa Vera if you don't.
It is good to have another coach call the players back and to give
trouble to those runners who do not run through and praise to the
ones that do.
Chopping feet hip twist on command.
3 Man monkeys rolls. First day and it took about 15-20 minutes.
BREAK 7 minutes.
Went to the chute I made and did a board drill with no pads.
Anyone who raised up and had their head touch the top of the chute
had to run. Anyone who stepped off the board had to run. Looked bad
at first but got better.
Worked about 15 minutes.
BREAK 7 minutes. 100 degrees Monday.
Offensive positions:
Went over a few new plays "backside" Power-I plays that go away from
the strong side set. That way they can't read the strong side.
46 belly
46 belly keep
46 trap.
We will run power I,
Wing I
Shotgun: split the other team out and make them defend the pass and
stretch the field out.
Walked through, huddles and ran each play 3 times.
Made the whole team run to the dirt on the baseball field we
practice after each play and come back to get huddles up.
Toe to Toe
Shoulder to Shoulder
Hip to Hip
Front row: Hands on your knees with eyes up.
Shoulder to shoulder, toe to toe, hip to hip. dadgummit.
Call the play out twice then "ready break"
Power I right 46 belly, power I right 46 belly, ready break.
About 20 minutes of this.
BREAK 7 minutes
Set up chute and a diamond look of license plates out in front of
the chute and had the kids run through facing forward then crossing
over at the top to the diamond facing away still, then back peddle
past last diamond license plate and turn to face and run through
chute full speed and low.
If you fell down, didn't go around the plates, hit your head, stood
straight up going around a cone, or just looked sloppy. RUN to the
dugout and back. dadgummmit.
10-12 minutes.
BREAK 7 minutes and all the water is gone from our just with 14
players on the field with us.
Pursuit drill.
You should have this "top 10 drill" down by now if you own a copy of
my online guide. I am going to explain what I did today and the next
in detail in this years book. I might even video it.
15 minutes of this.
And we are mostly done with our first day in shorts. |
